International Summit on

Title : Global Peace and Interfaith Harmony in the 21st Century

Venue : India International Centre / A Suitable Venue

Dates : 14 - 15 December 2013

Organizers : Interfaith Foundation, India

 Global Peace Foundation, India

IASE (D) University and Gandhi Vidya Mandir

We are passing through a phase of uncertainty, tension, psychological chaos and a kind of

imbalanced culture, worldwide. No doubt, scientific advancement, hi-technology and electronic

media have brought about a new revolution in the world, accompanied by unprecedented increase in

production. The distances have shrunk unbelievably. We hear the world having shrunk to a ‘global

village’. However, this is one side of the picture.

Prosperity has increased, but only in a limited number of industrially advanced countries. A very

large chunk of humanity is still denied a healthy loaf of bread and some drinking water. This

apart, a cut throat competition, bereft of human values, is rampant in the society. Man has become

reckless and aggressive in his behaviour, both in the society and with the nature.

The priestly class is unmindful of its religious responsibility. Politics has become negative all over.

Regionalism and sectarianism are the ugly cards played to divide the society into castes and sub-
castes. Heinous crimes against women and child are a talk of the town. Needless to say, the so-

called religious communities show rigidity and exclusiveness in their stance. The new religious

prophets are a class by themselves. Denominational languages have kept the knowledge of the

Spiritual Scriptures away from the masses.

To transform a large number of people, who otherwise, come from different background, is not an

easy task. It is high time that truly religious people from all communities along with other selfless

leaders unite to bring about healthy transformation at all levels. Most of the problems have their

international dimensions therefore it calls for a united effort on the part all nations of the world.

God is one. Religion is one. Mankind is one. There is an urgent need for correct and unbiased

interpretations of Spiritual Scriptures. All prophets and all Spiritual Scriptures have given the

message of love, peace, harmony, brotherhood, cooperation and coexistence. The acceptance of

universal human values and the ‘golden rule’ will ensure global peace and interfaith harmony. We

should have high ideals before us but our approach should be pragmatic.

- The Global Interfaith Peace Summit 2013 will explore the relevance of religion and spirituality

while addressing the critical issues of poverty, coexistence and interfaith harmony. The Summit

will bring together prominent religious and spiritual leaders, scholars, social and peace activists,

as well as influential policy makers, and civil society actors from institutions such as government,

business, education, science, media, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and students

from around the world to share their views on the theme of the Summit.

- The dialogue will promote understanding and spiritual environment for peace, harmony and

- Build bridges between different religions and spread message of peace.

- Promote common consciousness for a world culture

- Promote multi-disciplinary research and activities for peace and harmony.

Theme 1: Interfaith Harmony: Healing the Earth with Care and Compassion.
